The Rise of Magento
by Evan
As I touched on in my last blog entry, we're big fans of the Magento Ecommerce platform here at DogHouse Media. We've got a number of Magento sites under our collective belts with a number more in the pipeline. Magento is a fairly new Ecommerce platform, but it makes a number of improvements over its predecessors, such as OsCommerce. It is more flexible, customisable and secure than many commercial Ecommerce software packages available.
Due to these strengths, developers have been flocking to Magento in the past 12 months. This post from online job posting company oDesk documents the rise in Magento jobs they've experienced in the past 12 months; the number of Magento jobs has increased by a factor of 13 in that time-frame. It's not just oDesk who are recording these trends, however. This Google Trends analysis shows the rapid growth of Magento versus the gradual decline of OsCommerce, as you can see from the graph below. It also highlights the amount of attention Magento has been getting from various news sources.

Here are DogHouse, we're proud to say that we've been following the Magento platform since the early days. In that time we've developed a vast pool of knowledge and resources to call upon when developing Magento stores for our clients. Some examples of our Magento sites are WineX and Cameraland Camera House. If you're interested in starting your own Magento site, feel free to get in touch with us and we'll be happy to talk about your needs and requirements.
