Groupon - Deal of the Day or Nightmare for Small Business?
Groupon grew out of a deal of the day website in Chicago in 2008, driven by founder Andrew Mason. It now claims to have 33 million registered users world-wide and by 2010 the company was valued at $1.35 billion (Forbes, Nov 23 2010).
However, last month the New York Times reported that Groupon posted a loss of $9.8 million. While Groupon claims revenue is still growing (current figure of around $506.5 million), there seems to be backlash growing against the organisation from the stakeholders that feed it - small business.
